Nightlight

I experimented with a new technique on the following drawing.
Watercolors are complicated.
I consider much learning to have occurred.
For anyone wondering about the lull during the past few weeks, let's just say
life is crazy sometimes.

Yeah, but . . .

This snarky watercolor was the second watercolor-only piece I've made.  I soaked the paper after I drew a pencil outline.  I sprinkled the painting with salt, to experiment.  That yielded the slightly speckled texture.

La Inferma

I used two little blobs of paint for this.  Watercolor is so much different than any medium I've ever used, and I think I like it.
As an experiment I soaked the paper in my sink for about ten minutes, and then used some clamps to hold it to a piece of wood and keep it from wrinkling.  It stayed evenly damp throughout the whole process, which helped the colors merge better.

I think for my first watercolor-only piece, it turned out pretty well.

The Old Watcher

This monster makes me sad.  I know I made him up myself, but he feels like a character that I learned about as I drew him.

I would tell you his story, but it's very disturbing. And maybe it would be better if you came up with a story of your own for him.

This was made with watercolors on watercolor paper and a fine-tipped sharpie.

Jagged Teeth

The burnt mountains look like dead things,
like hunched-over travelers,
frozen & forgotten
tree stumps,
a burnt-down city,
jagged teeth.
